Talitha Koum
- Mission:
- Talitha Koum describes its mission as offering hope to South Waco families in poverty through an intensive care program. The institute provides a Therapeutic Nursery for children ages 6 and under and provides comprehensive support for each child’s family until the child’s high school graduation.
- Volunteer Duties:
- Volunteers can give their time in a variety of ways, including playing with the children, administrative assistance, working with the swimming pool program, grounds upkeep and tutoring. Visit the Talitha Koum volunteer website for details.
- Volunteer Requirements:
- Volunteers must register and attend an orientation (held on the third Saturday of each month) at Talitha Koum. $2 is required to cover the cost of a background check.
- Training:
- Volunteers will attend a two-and-a-half-hour orientation.
- Time Commitment:
- Talitha Koum has a variety of opportunities for students with varying schedules. Volunteers may choose to spend an hour weekly or biweekly, to be contacted quarterly, or to participate in an ongoing project.
- Group Volunteering:
- Groups are welcome, but must be scheduled with the Talitha Koum office.
- Recommended For:
- Students in the fields of early childhood, education and social work
- Benefits:
- Volunteers have the opportunity to see the gifts and strengths of children in poverty and to gain a wider understanding of a sometimes overlooked population.
