Street Outreach for Survival

Mission:

Street Outreach for Survival identifies homeless/runaway youth in Central Texas and provides them with services including food and hygiene packs, clothing, counseling, information and referral, shelter, independent skills training, and transitional living services. Safe Place provides sites for immediate protection and access to community services.

Volunteer Duties:

Volunteers work in a guided group to identify homeless/runaway children and young adults from 0-25 years. Volunteers establish a rapport with the youth, and may provide them with basic supplies and information on available services. Volunteers will not work alone, and will always have a group leader.
Volunteers may also work at special events or make presentations in schools to explain the services offered to youth.

Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteers must attend an orientation, and pass a drug test (provided at orientation) and a background check. Must be 18 or over and fill out an application.

Training:

All necessary training is provided at an orientation, which is held in Belton, TX (transportation provided if needed). Further training may be provided on site.

Time Commitment:

There is no set time commitment, but a couple hours per week is recommended.

Group Volunteering:

Groups are welcome.

Recommended For:

Students in the fields of early childhood, education, social work, and others.

Benefits:

Volunteers gain a wider understanding of a sometimes overlooked population.
