Ensembles

Rock Ensemble

Our rock bands play a variety of music from the history of the rock genre from 1955 to present. Repertoire is chosen by the members guided by the instructor. Past concerts have included: A History of Grunge, A Beatles Show, Performances of the classic albums, Dark Side of The Moon and The Wall by Pink Floyd, and frequent collaborations with our choir performing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody To Love and Styx's Come Sail Away. Recently we paid concert tributes to Neil Peart of Rush and Eddie Van Halen. Our rock bands play an end of semester concert on campus as well as other dates at local venues and festivals.

Jazz Band

Our Jazz band is made up of students from our MIC program and our transfer music program. It's not the typical big band instrumentation but a more eclectic, jazz-fusion set up. A typical band might look like this: 4 singers, 3 guitars, 2 keyboards, horn section, bass, drums and percussion. Styles range from: Motown, Tower of Power, Jeff Beck, Chick Corea, Larry Carlton, Snarky Puppy, Jamie Cullum, Diana Krall, Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Weather Report, and many others. Our jazz band plays an end of semester concert as well as appearances at local venues and festivals.

Country Band

Our country band draws inspiration from the long history of Country Music from the 1920's- present. The goal is to expose students to the array of different periods in which country music has evolved. From the Carter Family, Honky-Tonk, Nashville Sound, Outlaws, New Traditionalists and Texas Country, the student will gain an appreciation of many eclectic influences. Our country bands play an end of semester concert as well as the area honky-tonks each semester.

CCM

Our Contemporary Christian Ensemble specializes in worship music that stylistically, evolved in the 1990's and became commonplace in churches across the country. Its mantra became “rock music with a Christian message” and that's what this group is all about. Along with the traditions of the Black Gospel church, our CCM group tries to cover almost 100 years of amazing Gospel music. Many of our MIC graduates who have played in this band go on to be worship leaders all over Central Texas. Our CCM ensemble plays an end of semester concert on campus and other dates at local festivals and churches.

Vocal Tech

Our vocal tech ensemble is made up of MIC vocal majors who cover songs in a cappella style or with a full band. Their repertoire is selected based on personnel but drawn from many different genres such as rock, jazz, pop, or country. Members are assigned vocal harmony parts and also accompany the group on instruments such as piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion. Vocal Tech performs an end-of-semester concert as well as other shows at local venues.
