8-Week Courses: Fast, Focused, Flexible

What Are 8-Week Courses?

At MCC, 8-week courses let you learn the same material in half the time. Instead of lasting 16 weeks, each course is completed in just 8 weeks. You still earn full credit for each class, just like you would in a traditional schedule.

How It Works

Students take two classes at a time, with each semester divided into two 8-week sessions.

Example Schedule:

Fall 1

ENGL 1301, SPCH 1311

Fall 2

ENGL 1302, PHIL 1301

Spring 1

MATH 1314, HIST 1301

Spring 2

MATH 1316, HIST 1302

By the end of the academic year, you’ll have earned 25 credits—the same total as a traditional full-year schedule.

Benefits of 8-Week Courses

  • Graduate Faster: Earn credits quickly to finish your degree sooner.
  • Stay Focused: Only 2 classes at a time = less stress and better focus.
  • Higher Success Rate: Students do better when they focus on fewer subjects.
  • Flexible Start Dates: Missed Fall 1? Start in Fall 2-no need to wait for spring.
  • Financial Aid Friendly: Take 4 classes per semester and still qualify as full-time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all MCC classes 8 weeks?

No. MCC will continue to offer traditional 16-week classes. Opportunities for 8-week options are growing, especially for core subjects such as English, History, Math, etc.

Will I spend less time in class?

No. You'll meet more often each week to cover the same material. You may attend class every day of the week, or the hours in the classroom may increase.
