Students are required to apply to be a part of the PTA program. In order to make your application as competitive as possible, students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to complete ALL FIVE of the general academic courses required in the PTA degree plan, maintaining a high GPA, prior to applying to the program.

The General Academic Courses Required are:

  • BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology I
  • BIOL 2402 Anatomy & Physiology II
  • ENGL 1301 Composition I
  • PSYC 2314 Lifespan (Human) Growth & Development
  • PHIL 2306 or other Language, Philosophy, Culture or Creative Arts Elective (Humanities)
    • NOTE: As Anatomy and Physiology are foundational for the practice of physical therapy, the Anatomy & Physiology courses cannot be more than five years old at the time the student applies to the PTA program.

These courses can be completed at McLennan Community College or at any CHEA recognized accrediting body that is convenient for the student. These 5 courses will take approximately 2 semesters to complete. Once a student has applied and is accepted into the PTA program, the remainder of the PTA classes must be completed on the McLennan Community College campus. The remaining classes will take five semesters, full time, to complete.
