Intravenous (IV) Therapy Certification

MCC's IV Certification Course — also known as an IV therapy certification — is for LVNs, RNs, paramedics, and other licensed healthcare professionals in Texas who can perform IV therapy as part of their job.

In this course, you will learn the basics of:

  • Venipuncture (starting IV)
  • Intravenous (IV) infusions
  • Blood drawing
  • The venous system
  • Fluids and electrolytes
  • Blood and blood products
  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
  • Lipids
  • Common IV therapy complications

This is a 16-hour hybrid course. You will complete:

  • 8 hours of online learning
  • 8 hours of hands-on training with an instructor

To earn your Certificate of Completion, you must pass a skills checkoff and a final exam.

Program Requirements

To take this course, you must:

  • Be a licensed healthcare worker (LVN or RN) or work under the supervision of licensed healthcare personnel.
  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have an active Texas LVN or RN license in good standing.
