It is recommended that all prospective students be advised by a Health Information Technology faculty member.
Application Requirements
Applicants should apply for admission to McLennan Community College. Applicants should submit a Health Information Technology Program Application & Checklist.
The application deadline is June 1 for classes beginning in the Fall. November 1 for classes beginning in the Spring.
Submit transcripts from other colleges to the Program Director (these may be unofficial).
Admission Criteria
Meeting the criteria does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
- TSI
Applicants must be TSI complete prior to admission to the program. - Minimum 2.8 GPA (cumulative GPA) required for the following 3 courses:
HITT 1205 Medical Terminology I
HITT 1301 Health Data Content & Structure
HITT 1341 Coding & Classification Systems
Only 2 attempts permitted. The highest score will be used. Classes must be taken within the past 5 years. - Background Check
A background check must be completed by the company designated by HITT program. Student admission will be dependent upon conviction and conviction date according to policy. (See Program Director for details).
Applicants are admitted to the program in order of priority until the enrollment limit has been filled. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee admission to the program. Students typically must score higher than the minimum requirements to be accepted. Decisions are made by the Health Information Technology Admissions Committee.
Class Size
The number of students accepted each year is determined by the availability of clinical sites. Generally, the maximum number of students admitted each year is 25.
