English Language Acquisition

The term ELA (English Language Acquisition) has replaced ESL (English as a Second Language) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

MCC offers two English Intensive courses for ELA students:
INRW 0401.E1 (or .E2, .E3, etc.) Integrated Reading & Writing I: English Intensive
INRW 0402.E1 (or .E2, .E3, etc.) Integrated Reading & Writing II: English Intensive.

ELA course prerequisites are identical to those for the non-ELA forms of INRW, and ELA courses are equivalent to non-ELA INRW courses. The difference is that the ELA versions are designed for students who may be from ELA backgrounds or students whose written English proficiency indicators, as indicated on placement testing, suggest a need for the ELA course.

The Center for Academic Excellence in SSC 105 offers free assistance for students in all MCC classes.
