MCC hosting Ken Starr Lecture Sept. 12
Aug. 26, 2024
The McLennan Community College Honors College and Presidential Scholars will host The Ken Starr Lecture featuring A Conversation with Eminent Federal Judges Don Willett and Brantley Starr, Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Center at MCC, 4601 N. 19th. St, on the MCC campus.
The world lost a champion of religious liberty and advocate for freedom when Judge Ken Starr passed away in September 2022. In addition to serving our community as President of Baylor University, Judge Starr was also a great friend to McLennan Community College and its students. The College hosts a lecture each September to honor our friend.
Judge Don Willett has served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit since 2018. Before joining the federal judiciary, Judge Willett served a dozen years on the Supreme Court of Texas. He has devoted his professional life to public service, and prior to becoming a judge, he served as legal counsel to a Texas Attorney General, a Texas Governor, a U.S. Attorney General, and the President of the United States.
Judge Brantley Starr serves as a District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Prior to his judicial commission on August 6, 2019, Starr served as the Deputy First Assistant Attorney General of Texas, from 2016 to 2019. Starr also served as a staff attorney to Justice Eva Guzman of the Supreme Court of Texas, and worked as an Assistant Attorney General, Assistant Solicitor General, and Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel, all in the office of the Attorney General of Texas.
Admission to the event is free, but tickets are required and are available at KenStarrLecture.eventbrite.com.
