Student Update - June 9, 2020
The following message was sent to students on June 9, 2020 from McLennan’s President, Dr. Johnette McKown, and the Vice President of Instruction, Dr. Fred Hills
McLennan Community College is committed to providing you with every resource you need to reach your academic goals. As we prepare for the fall, we are working through COVID-19 guidelines to make sure we offer a safe environment for you and our faculty. This will include smaller class sizes to manage social distancing and proper cleaning techniques.
Since we do not know what new restrictions might be set throughout the Fall semester by the federal, state, and local governments, there is a possibility that your class may have to go fully online for a period of time. Consequently, we have changed all face-to-face classes to a blended/hybrid format to be able to adjust as necessary.
If you are in a blended/hybrid class, you will have the advantage of a physical classroom experience but may also need to work part of the time online as we adjust to limited classroom capacity. For example, in a Tuesday/Thursday course, you may be asked to attend in-person on Tuesdays while watching online (live or recorded) via Zoom on Thursdays. This will also allow us to move fully online if needed. Faculty and staff are preparing now to ensure that you have the best experience in the midst of these uncertain times.
Please know that you will need to have basic computer skills and access to a computer with an internet connection if at all possible. The majority of online and blended/hybrid courses will be located within Brightspace. For help using and navigating your online or blended/hybrid course, we have created some helpful documents and videos for you. In addition, you can access the Brightspace Orientation course located in “My Courses” when you login to Brightspace.
Finally, we also have computer labs to support your instructional needs. If you are uncertain about any of these changes or do not have access to technology, we want to help if we can. Let our Academic Support & Tutoring office know by calling 254-299-8500 or emailing ast@mclennan.edu, and we will work on a strategy to help you complete your classes efficiently and with excellence.
