Student Update August 21
Hello Students,
We are excited to welcome you back next week for the Fall semester. While we know this is going to be a very unique year, and there is anxiety about what to expect, we are doing everything we can to make it a great experience. We have shared information for the past few weeks about our plans for the Fall semester, and today, we wanted to take a moment to share some last minute notes regarding your health/safety and some reminders.
Health and Safety
The College COVID-19 webpage has a student resources link with helpful information. A few highlights include:
- Face coverings will be required to be worn in all College buildings and when outside in the presence of others where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
- If you are coming to campus, you must conduct a self-assessment to review exposure and symptoms. (Self-Assessment Form)
- If you have any symptoms or have potential exposure, we ask that you self-report. A College representative will contact you to assist you with guidance. (Self-Reporting Form)
- An online guide is available that provides important information and steps to take for various scenarios related to COVID-19 exposure and testing. (Exposure & Testing)
- Cleaning supplies will be available in every classroom for students to wipe down their desks/workspaces. Enhanced cleaning will take place each night by our custodians to ensure classrooms and common spaces are properly sanitized.
- Additional hand sanitizer stations have been added all around the campus.
- The air circulation in campus buildings are all utilizing more outside air and less circulated air. This improves health and safety in the buildings.
- An online safe practices training is available and provides very useful information. (Safe Practices During COVID-19)
The health and safety of our campus community is the responsibility of all of us. If we all follow these procedures and practices, we believe the campus can be a safe environment for all of us. We need you to help promote healthy behaviors on and off campus. Following all of the COVID-19 guidelines will help mitigate the spread of the virus and keep the McLennan Community College campus open. Unfortunately, the decisions of a few people to ignore health guidelines could have major consequences for us all. We must each take responsibility and do this Together!
Reminders
- Instructions for the first week of classes will be sent through your McLennan student email (ending in “students.mclennan.edu”) and online in Brightspace. Don’t be afraid to contact your professor to ask questions.
- Food trucks will be on campus in Parking Lot B by the Michaelis Academic Center. We will also have grab and go items in the Tartan Café in the Community Services Center, Highlander Café in the Michaelis Academic Center, and the Thistle Stop in the Learning Technology Center.
- Shuttle services have been modified to only provide services from one point on the main campus to one point at the Community Service Center. The location on the main campus will be at the vending machines at the Student Services Center, and the location at the Community Services Center will be by the fountain between the E & F wings. Two shuttles will be running with limited passengers to allow for social distancing. The ADA-shuttle will still be available for assisting students at all locations on campus.
- Free bus passes with Waco Transit’s public bus system are available for all McLennan Community College and University Center students. Bus passes are available in the Business Office, and you can see all the details of this program on the Bus Pass webpage.
Student services are currently being offered both online and on campus. The campus resource guide can help you with all of the ways McLennan Community College can assist you.
We look forward to seeing you on campus and online next week.
