About Upward Bound

Upward Bound is a college readiness program providing fundamental support and opportunities for participants to succeed in their recollected performance and, ultimately, their post-secondary journey. UB serves low-income and/or first-generation college-bound students. Our grant is held by McLennan Community College and awarded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Who We Serve

The Upward Bound program targets select participants from University High School, Waco High School, and La Vega High School. High school students accepted into the program during the academic year come to the MCC campus Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and one Saturday a month from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. During the summer, Upward Bound provides a summer, non-residential program in June and July. Students come to the MCC campus Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. The summer program is designed to simulate a college-going experience. We select students interested in pursuing a college degree immediately after graduation. We encourage our students to seek a rigorous curriculum in conjunction with our tutoring assistance.

Our Mission

The program aims to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in their academic studies. We offer students opportunities to experience college life, enhance skills and talents related to their interests, and prepare for post-secondary education.
