first generation scholar students

Scholars enjoy many advantages. Along with the scholarship for tuition, fees and books, they have several enrichment opportunities. These events and programs help students make the most of their time at McLennan, as well as prepare them for the next step in their education and career.

Scholars volunteer at many campus and community events to strengthen their appreciation for their community through service. Scholars also increase their leadership skills mentoring others on campus and in local high schools.

First Generation Scholars usually take a trip outside of Waco at least once a year for cultural enrichment. Additional scholarship opportunities are also available to First Generation Scholars for their junior and senior years of college.

First STEP

Summer Transition Enrichment Program (STEP) is a summer course only for students in the First Generation program. They meet and interact with other Scholars and learn valuable information for college, including:

  • study skills

  • life skills
