MCC hosting Holocaust Remembrance Day lecture Jan. 28

Jan. 13, 2025

McLennan Community College’s First Generation Scholars program and History department will host a Holocaust Remembrance Day lecture featuring Mark Jacobs at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 in Room 111 of the Michaelis Academic Center on the MCC campus.

January 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp. Mark Jacobs is the son of Holocaust survivor Mike Jacobs, who was born in Poland in 1925. In 1939, Mike and his family were confined in the Ostrowiec Ghetto. His parents, two brothers and two sisters were later murdered at Treblinka Death Camp. Mike survived several camps, including Auschwitz, and was liberated from Mauthausen-Gusen II by the U.S. Army in 1945.
