Deadlines for Financial Aid Applications

To ensure that financial aid can be available at the time that you need to pay for your coursework, you must complete your financial aid application and turn in any required forms approximately eight weeks prior to your payment due date for the semester.

To ensure that financial aid is available by the time the semester starts, the following deadlines should be met:

  • Spring semester - Nov. 1
  • Summer sessions - April 1 (limited aid is available for summer terms)
  • Fall semester - June 1

You should receive an award letter that provides details on the programs for which you are eligible and amount of money you will receive.

Summer Financial Aid Changes

Students who attended MCC full time during the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters may have a second opportunity to receive a Pell Grant if they enroll for a minimum of 6 semester hours for the summer. Click HERE for more information.

Grade Point Average and Completion Requirement

If you want to receive or continue receiving financial aid, you will need to maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and complete 67 percent of the courses you sign up for. If you fall below the GPA or 67 percent completion requirement, you will be placed on Financial Aid Probation and given a year to bring up your GPA or completion percentage or both. Failure to bring up the GPA and/or completion percentage up will cause you to be placed on financial aid suspension. You may file an appeal if you are suspended, but you will have to pay tuition and fees or make other payment arrangements while the appeal is being processed or you will be dropped from your classes.

NEW! Get your funds fast

MCC will disburse all financial aid balances, including Stafford Loans, through each student’s Highlander OneCard. Visit www.highlanderone.com to select one of the following disbursement options:

  • Open a OneAccount checking account through Higher One and have all refunds and financial aid credited automatically to that account within minutes of processing on the disbursement dates listed below.
  • Have your funds directly deposited to the bank of your choice through Higher One and receive funds within 1-3 business days from the disbursement dates listed below.

Minimester Courses and Financial Aid

Under current regulation, coursework taken during a minimester is not eligible for federal or state financial aid consideration. If you are taking a minimester course(s), you will be responsible for full payment of tuition, fees, and any books and supplies.

Paying for Dropped Courses

If you drop all your classes — or if your instructor drops you because you are not attending class — you may need to pay back part of the money you have received to attend school.

If you drop or are dropped before you have completed 60 percent of the semester— or if you are dropped for non attendance during the entire semester, federal law requires that you repay part of your financial aid.

You will not be able to return to MCC until you repay this money. If you wait more than 45 days, you will not be able to receive financial aid at MCC or any other school until payment is made.

Before you drop all your classes — especially if you have a family emergency — talk with a counselor in Career Development Services about your options. Call 299-8614.

Avoid problems...

  • Plan your schedule so you can complete your course work and take care of work and family obligations.
  • Attend class regularly. This will help you keep up with your course work and ensure that you will not be dropped for missing classes.
  • Talk with a counselor about your situation before dropping out. Counselors are available in Career Development Services.
  • Consider remaining enrolled in one or two courses, rather than dropping all of your classes, until you know how things will work out.
  • If you have a scholarship or have both applied for and are expecting financial aid (Pell grant or loans) and you decide not to attend classes, you must drop your classes through WebAdvisor prior to the first class day of a semester or term. If you do not drop your classes prior to the first day of a semester or term, your tuition and fees will be charged to your scholarship or financial aid or you will be responsible for paying for your tuition and fees.
