English Language Acquisition (ELA/ESL/ESOL)

The term ELA (English Language Acquisition) has been proposed by  the State as the currently accepted means of referring to ESL (English as a Second Language) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). However, ESL and ESOL are still in common use.

MCC offers two English Intensive INRW (Integrated Reading/Writing) courses for ELA students:

INRW 0411 Integrated Reading & Writing I: English Intensive (equivalent to INRW 0401)
INRW 0412 Integrated Reading & Writing II: English Intensive (equivalent to INRW 0402)

ELA prerequisites are identical to those for the non-ELA forms of INRW 0401 & 0402. The difference is that the ELA versions are designed for students who may be from ELA backgrounds or students whose written English proficiency, as indicated by placement testing, suggests that an ELA course would be beneficial.
