GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
To provide general secretarial and clerical support for assigned Alternative Teacher Certification staff. Perform the full range of duties as assigned including serving as receptionist, providing information and assistance to students, staff, and the public, keyboarding, scheduling appointments, and filing. Will be responsible for maintaining a student database for the department. Receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or GED.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: One year experience in an office environment. Additional specialized training in secretarial science or a related field.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Knowledge of: (1) English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; (2) office methods and practices, including filing systems, record maintenance, and letter and report writing; (3) principles and procedures of basic record keeping; (4) office equipment such as microcomputers and word processors and calculators.
Ability to: (5) learn new software and stay abreast of new software applications; (6) operate a typewriter, microcomputer, and other standard office equipment; (7) computer applications—spreadsheet, databases, word processing, internet use, and other job related applicable software; (8) understand and follow oral and written instructions; (9) provide a variety of general clerical work; (10) maintain a student database for the department; (11) establish and maintain professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; (12) communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Desk work, occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard receptionist's office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
