Engineering Department at McLennan Community College

Engineering is an exciting career choice, with engineers enjoying historically higher salaries and lower unemployment rates than the average college graduate. Engineers work in a variety of industries and develop solutions to problems, such as building more fuel-efficient engines, designing smartphones and creating the technology to land scientific equipment on Mars.

With large, local employers—like L-3 Communications, Trane and Space Exploration Technologies—and smaller, more specialized companies—like Brazos Environmental & Engineering Services, Duff Consulting Engineering Inc., Texas Machine-Tool International, TYMCO and The Wallace Group—McLennan County is a great place to work as an engineer.

McLennan Community College offers the first two years of engineering courses and related mathematics and science courses for transfer to an engineering program at a four-year school. A traditional engineering curriculum is available for students ready to begin in Calculus I their first semester at MCC. For students who are not prepared to take Calculus I their first semester, MCC has an alternative degree plan.

Engineering is a collection of specialized fields. While no one usually gets a degree in "engineering," students will choose a specific area of interest to pursue. Types of engineering include mechanical, electrical, computer, civil, architectural, petroleum, aerospace, biomedical, industrial, materials and nuclear engineering. Luckily, many of these fields share a common academic "engineering core," so you have some time to decide what you want to do. At MCC, we have experienced engineers and advisors who can help you find the career path that is perfect for you.
