Adult Basic Education Services
The program offers classes in basic education, GED preparation, English-as-a-Second Language, personal development, and life-long learning. Class offerings also include family literacy and on-site workplace literacy. The college and the Waco Independent School District offer the Competency Based High School Diploma program for out-of-school adults. An annual graduation ceremony is held each year.
The Family Literacy classes utilize an intergenerational approach to literacy. Classes are held at the Estella Maxey Apartments, Doris Miller Elementary and MCC McGregor AE Learning Center. These centers provide lessons using acclaimed software, as well as one-on-one traditional teaching methods. Parenting skills are incorporated into basic study skills.
