Campus Safety

At McLennan, we strive to ensure the safest possible environment for every person on our campus. Below are some resources regarding issues of personal safety in our campus community.

Campus Police

If at ANY point when you're on campus, you feel unsafe or need assistance, do not hesitate to call 254-299-8911

Campus police are available 24 hours a day and will be happy to come immediately to wherever you are on campus in order to ensure your safety. If you feel unsafe walking from your car to a campus building or vice versa, they'll be happy to come and escort you.

McLennan recommends saving the Campus Police number in your cell phone so it's available when you need it.

Campus Safety Report and Residents

Each year, McLennan publishes a report thoroughly explaining the business of safety on our campus and a complete statistical summary of all crime occurring on campus and in the Waco community surrounding our campus. Those reports are viewable here.

Incidents of Sexual Misconduct

If you, or someone you know is a victim of some form of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment or sexual assault:

  • Get to a safe place immediately. If you have immediate safety concerns while on campus, call campus police.
  • Seek medical assistance. Regardless of whether you intend to report an assault to the police, if you have experienced sexual assault or violence, get medical attention as soon as possible. You may have hidden injuries or need information about pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Preserve evidence. Even if you have no immediate intention to report the incident to the police, preserving evidence will be important in case you later decide to press criminal charges or pursue disciplinary action against another person.
    • DO NOT shower or bathe, douche, wash hands, use the toilet, brush your teeth, change clothing, or wash clothing or bedding. If you change clothes, carefully place all clothing worn at the time (or bedding) into a paper bag.
    • Undergo a sexual assault examination at the hospital; take a change of clothes in case the clothes you were wearing need to be collected as evidence.
    • Preserve any electronic evidence, such as text messages, emails, phone records, voicemails, etc.
    • Consider writing down every detail you can remember about the incident, including what the assailant(s) looked like (e.g., gender, height, weight, scars, tattoos, hair color, clothes); any unusual odor; any noticeable signs of intoxication; anything the assailant(s) said during the assault; what kinds of sexual activities were demanded and/or carried out; if weapons, threats, or physical force were used; and any special traits noticed (e.g., limp, speech impediments, use of slang, etc.). Writing it down will not only aid you in recalling details should you choose to report, it also can be empowering as it allows you an element of control in a situation where control had previously been taken away.
  • Talk to someone and report the assault.

There are two ways to make a report. You may do so anonymously with Counseling Personnel or directly with Title IX Coordinators or campus police. Counseling Services. Personnel accepting anonymous reports within the Counseling Center are under no obligation to report personal details of alleged sexual misconduct. In addition, individuals accepting anonymous reports will advise the reporting party about preserving evidence and will offer to assist them in making a formal allegation. Title IX Coordinators and campus police cannot provide anonymity; however, your confidentiality is protected to the fullest extent permissible by law.

Title IX related incidents which may include parenting/pregnant students, domestic/dating violence, stalking, sexual harassment, sexual assault, etc. MCC faculty and staff are considered Responsible Employees and are required to report prohibited conduct to the Title IX Coordinator.
