Highlassie Softball Head Coach - Manuel Ordones

Ordones became head softball coach in 2003 after spending two years as assistant baseball coach. Under his guidance, the Highlassie softball team made back-to-back national tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008, with 2007 marking the program’s first national tournament berth.

Five players from the Highlassies' last three squads have moved on to play for Big XII universities. Last season’s all-conference first baseman Michelle Ege is now at Texas Tech University, along with outfielder Logan Winkelman. Former Highlassies shortstop Raygan Feight is now in her second season with the University of Texas, and Jenny Isham and Jacquelyn Beatty from the ’07 team spent two years playing for Baylor University and Iowa State University, respectively.

Before joining the MCC staff, Ordones was the head baseball coach at Connally High School for 18 years. During his tenure at Connally, Ordones led the Cadets to four district titles and 10 playoff appearances and compiled a career record of 270-112. He was District 8-3A Coach of the Year in 1999 and was selected that same year to coach the North All-Star team for classes 1A, 2A and 3A. The Waco Tribune-Herald also named Ordones the Super Centex Baseball Coach of the Year in 1986 and ’89.

Ordones played for the 1978 Baylor University baseball team, which won a regional championship and advanced to the NCAA College World Series. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Baylor in 1982 and completed his master’s in education from Tarleton State University in 2005.

Ordones and his wife, Gilda, have two children: Genee and Matthew.
