Women's Golf Coach - Stan Mitchell

Stan Mitchell is beginning his 21st year as a golf coach at MCC and his 14th as head women’s golf coach. In 2007, he led the Highlassies to the program’s third National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Golf Championship.
Mitchell took the reigns of the women's golf as a club sport in 1996, and the NJCAA re-established the sport in 1998. The Highlassies claimed the national title that first year and have finished in the top five every year since, including another national title in 2002.
With Mitchell at the helm, the women's program has produced 47 All-Americans and nine Academic All-Americans and has been named an Academic Team of the Year for 11 of the last 12 years. In 2008, Mitchell was rewarded for his hard work and dedication to the sport when he was inducted into the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame along with former Highlassie Ashlie Simmons.
Mitchell joined the MCC faculty in 1984 as a business and economics instructor and began his MCC coaching career in 1989 with the men’s golf team. In 11 years as coach, he took the team to the national tournament five times. Under Mitchell's leadership, the men's squad produced three All-Americans and four Academic All-Americans and finished sixth in the nation in 2000.
Mitchell coached both the men's and women's golf teams for four seasons before he decided to focus strictly on the women's team in 2000.
Mitchell received his bachelor's degree in business in 1975 and MBA in finance in 1977, both from the University of Texas. He earned a doctorate in training and development from Oklahoma State University in 1980.
Along with his coaching duties, Mitchell also holds teaching responsibilities in the Accounting and Economics department. He is married to Nancy Ray-Mitchell, who teaches business at MCC.
