Highlander Baseball Head Coach - Pete Mejia

Pete Mejia became the head baseball coach at MCC in 2005 after spending five years as the Highlanders' assistant coach and serving as recruiting coordinator for two of those seasons.
Mejia, a graduate of Waco High School, played baseball at Navarro College before transferring to the University of Texas, where he worked for legendary coaches Cliff Gustafson and Augie Garrido. After he graduated in 1998, Mejia taught and coached at the junior high and high school levels before coming to MCC as a volunteer assistant in 1999.
Since Mejia took the reins in 2005, the Highlanders have posted a 135-125 record and have made three regional tournament appearances, capturing the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Championship the second year. Those teams have featured 14 all-conference selections and one All-American, and 53 players have gone on to play at four-year schools.
Last season, the Highlanders qualified for the Region V tournament after posting an 18-14 record in conference play for a third-place conference finish. The Highlanders finished the season with an overall record of 28-31. Pitcher Joey Satriano, infielder Brian Nephew and outfielder Michael Pair, all sophomores, were second-team all-conference selections.
Mejia has a bachelor’s in education from the University of Texas and a master’s in sports management from Baylor University. He and his wife, Devin, have one daughter, Meredith Rose, born June 25.
