Highlander Baseball Assistant Coach - Chris Clemons

Chris Clemons returned to the Highlander dugout as assistant baseball coach last season after spending the last two years as a volunteer assistant at Baylor University.

Over the summer, Clemons served as head coach of the Texas Collegiate League’s Victoria Generals. He lead the squad to a 30-14-1 record. The Generals claimed the regular-season championship in the team’s inaugural season, and Clemons was named the 2009 Coach of the Year.

During a previous three-year stint with MCC, Clemons worked with the pitchers and catchers and served as the recruiting coordinator before mov¬ing down the road to Baylor in 2006.

Clemons, a McGregor native, attended Texas A&M University from 1992-94 and earned All-Southwest Conference and All-American honors as a pitcher. He was a first round draft pick by the Chicago White Sox following his junior year.

He reached the major leagues in 1997, appearing in five games with two starts for the White Sox. The next year, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Clemons in the expan-sion draft. His major league career was cut short following reconstructive shoulder surgery in 1998. He spent the next three years in Arizona, Cleveland and Minnesota minor league organizations before retiring in 2001.

Clemons returned to school and received his bachelor’s in exercise and sports science from Tarleton State University in 2005.

He and his wife, Amber, have an 10-year-old daughter, Halen.
